ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Beyond our commitment to providing the best possible after hours medical care, Family Care Medical Services recognises that it has a broad environmental responsibility to the Australian and International Community.  We have undertaken a series of affirmative action to reduce the environmental impact of our activities:

CARBON REDUCTION POLICY

In providing over 85,000 home visits per year, Family Care Medical Services is reliant on motor vehicles to get our doctors to and from their patients.  To minimize the environmental impact of the company’s activities we have upgraded our motor vehicle fleet to four cyclinder gas fuelled and efficient diesel vehicles.  We estimate that this has reduced the carbon emissions of our activities by around 15%

OFFSETTING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Family Care Medical Services recognises that its reliance on motor vehicles and our air conditioned offices creates carbon pollution that, whilst reduced, still exists.

To offset this carbon pollution the company makes a substantial yearly financial contribution to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, allowing it to purchase private conservation lands that would otherwise be cleared for agriculture.  This offsets the carbon footprint of Family Care Medical Services against conservation lands that are preserved in perpetuity.

THE PAPERLESS OFFICE

Family Care Medical Services endeavours to reduce paper use through the introduction of electronic and computerised business systems. In 2008/09 we are aiming to redce our paper usage by 2.5 tonnes which will contrinute to reducing deforestation, water use and waste landfill.

Through these and other initiatives Family Care Medical Services contributes over $35,000 to environmental improvement policies each year.
